The Laser Robotics Laboratory (Figure 1) is the new laboratory of the Digital Photonic Production group where they investigate robot-based Laser Materials Processing (LMP). In order to incorporate agile product development methods, the laboratory includes a fab lab, which enables mechanical as well as electrical and electronic work. The experimental area of the lab offers different kinematic systems: 2-axis gantry system (Stepcraft Q408 & Stepcraft D600), 6-axis articulated robot (Universal Robots UR5e), 7-axis articulated robot (Franka Emika Panda Research Edition) and a mobile platform (own development). In addition to the different kinematics, one can choose from different lasers (pulsed and continuous) and different processing heads (a cutting & welding processing head as well as a galvanometer scanner).

The Laser Robotics Laboratory (room 319, 3rd floor) is located in the interdisciplinary Research Center for Digital Photonic Production (RCDPP) (Campus-Boulevard 73, 52074 Aachen, Germany) in the Photonics Cluster of RWTH Aachen University (Figure 2). The RCDPP unites chairs from different disciplines under one roof: from mechanical engineering to biotechnology to physics. In the RCDPP one investigates how photonics can be used to benefit various disciplines.
